Higher levels survive scuffs, reprints and logos — at the cost of a denser code. Use H for stickers, signage and anything laminated.

Finding the variant ID

  1. In Shopify admin, open the product and select the variant.
  2. Read the number at the end of the browser address bar.
  3. Use it as /cart/THATNUMBER:1 — the :1 is the quantity.

A scan then lands on a cart that already contains the item. Pair it with ?discount= and the code applies the offer too, which makes print campaigns measurable without any app.

Where these earn their keep

  • Market stalls and pop-ups — a code per product for anything not carried on the day.
  • Packaging inserts — a reorder code straight into a pre-filled cart.
  • Shelf talkers — full specs and reviews without reprinting a catalogue.
  • Print advertising — a unique discount code per placement shows which one worked.

Use your own domain

Always build the link on yourstore.com.au, not the .myshopify.com address. Customers recognise your domain, and if you ever move platforms you can redirect it — whereas a myshopify link dies with the store.

Test before printing

  • Open the link in a private window, signed out, so you see what a customer sees.
  • Check the cart link adds the right variant, not just the right product.
  • Confirm the discount actually applies at checkout, not only in the URL.
  • For thousands of product codes, use the bulk generator with a CSV export.

Shopify QR questions

How do I create a QR code for a Shopify product?

Copy the product URL from your live store — yourstore.com.au/products/handle — and paste it into the generator above. No app install is needed.

Can a QR code add an item straight to the cart?

Yes. Use yourstore.com.au/cart/VARIANT_ID:1, where the variant ID comes from the end of the URL when you open that variant in Shopify admin. The :1 sets the quantity.

Can I apply a discount automatically?

Yes. Add ?discount=CODE to a cart link, or use yourstore.com.au/discount/CODE to apply it site-wide. A unique code per print placement also tells you which placement worked.

Do I need a paid Shopify QR code app?

Not for static codes. Shopify URLs are ordinary links, so any generator can encode them. Paid apps are selling dynamic codes and scan analytics, which most stores do not need.

How do I make codes for hundreds of products?

Export your products to CSV from Shopify admin, keep the title and URL columns, then use the bulk generator to produce up to 500 codes at once with matching filenames.
